Welcome to the official website of Collegio Alessandro Volta in Pavia!

Collegio Alessandro Volta was founded in year 2000 by ISU, a Regional body in charge of supporting and widening University access. In June 2007 ISU has been superseded by a new body (EDiSU) that includes the University of Pavia as a stakeholder.

The College is located next to the campus of the University of Pavia in close vicinity to several University Departments and Research Centres such as the National Research Council Institute of Molecular Genetics, and the Maugeri and Mondino Medical Research Foundations. The College is named after Alessandro Volta, the Italian scientist and Professor at the University of Pavia who discovered the battery cell in 1800.

Students are admitted to Collegio Volta by one of two ways:
  • Undergraduate students as well as students of MSc Courses apply to EDiSU. They can, however, indicate Volta as the College of first preference in the application form.
  • PhD students, students of MA Courses, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students attending Training Courses can apply directly to the College and should write to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Collegio Volta provides an informal life style in a modern building located on the University campus. The campus is located two miles from the city centre and is connected through a regular bus service. Self-catering accomodation is provided in blocks of four student rooms sharing a kitchen. Individual rooms are provided with services and wireless internet connection. The College has two libraries, computers, printers and excellent seminar and lecture rooms. A sports ground is available as well as parking for mature students and visitors.
